puma

(Science: zoology) A large American carnivore (felis concolour), found from canada to Patagonia, especially among the mountains. Its colour is tawny, or brownish yellow, without spots or stripes.

Synonym: catamount, cougar, American lion, mountain lion, and panther or painter.

Origin: Peruv. Puma.

This may sound like a strange question...

It depends on what kind of bear. If you are talking grizzly.... I would rule puma out because Puma rely on sneak attacks from behind. A Gorilla (especially a male siver back) would no doubt win with a puma. Grizzly VS Gorilla???? I will have to think about that.
