puffball

(Science: botany) A kind of ball-shaped fungus (lycoperdon giganteum, and other species of the same genus) full of dustlike spores when ripe.

Synonym: bullfist, bullfice, puckfist, puff, and puffin.

gametophye and sporophyte

... and "sporophyte" can't be used to refer to the life cycle of fungi. About the most dominant part of the life cycle, in Basidiomycetes (mushrooms, puffballs, etc.) the "dominant" one is the basidiocarp "stage", the "fruiting" body that has gills underneath for spore growth and protection.
