(Science: syndrome) Accelerated aging syndrome in which most of the characteristic stages of human senescence are compressed into less than a decade. Defect probably in dNA repair.

... aging of a cell. I don't think you'll find a single switch that explains it all. An interesting topic in aging is the disease Hutchinson-Gilford progeria, which ties in with the Lamin A topic I mentioned above.
