preeclampsia

(Science: obstetrics) A toxaemia of late pregnancy characterised by hypertension, oedema and proteinuria, when convulsions and coma are associated, it is called eclampsia.

It occurs after the 20th week of gestation, but it may develop before this time in the presence of trophoblastic disease.
