pravastatin

(Science: chemical) An antilipaemic fungal metabolite isolated from cultures of nocardia autotrophica. It acts as a competitive inhibitor of hmg coA reductase (hydroxymethylglutaryl CoA reductases).

Pharmacological action: anticholesteraemic agents, hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA reductase inhibitors.
