Powassan virus

(Science: virology) A virus of the genus flavivirus (family flaviviridae), transmitted by ixodid ticks and causing powassan encephalitis in children; also capable of producing meningoencephalomyelitis in rabbits and children.

Origin: Powassan, Canada, where first isolated
