Pivot joint

Definition

noun, plural: pivot joints

A synovial joint in which a section of a cylinder of one bone fits into a corresponding cavity on the other, permitting rotating motion.


Supplement

Example is the joint in human head on the neck, allowing rotating movement. Other examples are those found in the forearms, knees and other parts of the skeletal system that are capable of rotating.
