(Science: zoology) A remarkable genus of marine worms having tentacles around the mouth. It is usually classed with the gephyreans. Its larva (actinotrocha) undergoes a peculiar metamorphosis.

Origin: NL, fr. L. Phoronis, a surname of Io, Gr.
