Peripheral demyelination



The pathological loss of myelin sheath of myelinated nerve fibers located in the peripheral nervous system.


Peripheral demyelination is one of the two types of demyelination, the other being central demyelination. An example of peripheral demyelination is that one occurring in the neurons of patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome.
