Dictionary » P » Penicillin Penicillinpenicillin (Science: drug) probably the best known of the antibiotics, derived from the mould penicillium notatum. It blocks the cross linking reaction in peptidoglycan synthesis and therefore destroys the bacterial cell wall making the bacterium very susceptible to damage.
