Outer ear

Definition

noun

The external portion of the ear, consisting of the pinna, concha, and auditory meatus, and primarily responsible for collecting and focusing sound waves.


Supplement

Many mammals can move their pinna (with the auriculares muscles) in order to focus their hearing in a certain direction. Many humans though lack the ability to move their pinna.
