A former name to the infection caused by the Candida species in the oral cavity or mouth.
Candida infection in the mouth gives out a characteristic white patches in the mucous membranes of the mouth.
Word origin: Monilia (a genus) + -iasis (state or condition caused by the presence of an infectious agent)
