(Science: zoology) A class of star-shaped echinoderms having a disklike body, with slender, articulated arms, which are not grooved beneath and are often very fragile.

Synonym: Ophiuroida and Ophiuridea.

Origin: NL, fr. Gr. Serpent _ tail _ form.
