(Science: chemistry) A saccharide of a small number of component sugars, either O or N linked to the next sugar. Number of component sugars not rigorously defined - the range of 3 to 10 component sugars is commony accepted.

... are a totally different thing from glycoproteins. proteoglycans-polysaccharides attached covalently to proteins glycoproteins-monosaccharides or oligosaccharides attached covalently to proteins.
