Dictionary » O » Ohm

(Science: physics) The standard unit in the measure of electrical resistance, being the resistance of a circuit in which a potential difference of one volt produces a current of one ampere. As defined by the international Electrical Congress in 1893, and by united states statute, it is a resistance substantially equal to 10^9 units of resistance of the C.G.S. System of electromagnetic units, and is represented by the resistance offered to an unvarying electric current by a column of mercury at the temperature of melting ice 14.4521 grams in mass, of a constant cross-sectional area, and of the length of 106.3 centimeters. As thus defined it is called the international ohm.

(Science: physics) ohm's law, the statement of the fact that the strength or intensity of an electrical current is directly proportional to the electromotive force, and inversely proportional to the resistance of the circuit.

Origin: So called from the German electrician, G.S. Ohm.

Human Beings Resistance Power.

... we check Resistance (unit in Ohms) of a Human body using Analog/Digital Multimeter electronic measuring instrument it gives us the resistance in ohms. Suppose there are two Human beings sample data whose resistance is checked with the instrument. First Human Being's resistance is seen as 10 ohm ...

Re: Competent cells- just won't work!

Hmm, yeah apparently you can't read the pH of ultrapure water with a pH meter and the fact it's 18 ohm should be sufficient proof that the pH is 7? At least when it comes out of the machine. I've tried rubidium chloride and calcium chloride both unsuccessfully. ARGH!

Re: Biology EE

... can produce fairly good results with proper layout, and high quality parts. With that said, you could inject audio levels of say -20 dBm into a 8 ohm headphone and make a good aproximation. Perhaps I just don't quite understand what you are after. Sorry, I am not always quick to pick up on things ...

... vacuum cleaners, hair dryers and I've killed more watch and cell phone batteries than I care to think about. My brother hooked me up to his OHM meter one day and said I was putting out a half a volt of electricity while resting. Can a person put off that much electricity? Also this gets ...
