Dictionary » O » Oesophageal candidiasis Oesophageal candidiasisDefinition noun A variant of the term esophageal candidiasis, which is Candida infection of the moist cutaneous areas of the oesophagus.
The most commonly involved species is the Candida albicans. Since the species is an opportunistic pathogen, the infection is often observed in patients whose immune system is compromised (e.g. HIV patients). Note: Although some references consider candidosis as the more correct technical name for this condition other references use the term candidiasis synonymously with candidosis.
