Re: How did endosymbionts coordinate replication?

... I suppose, in any eukaryotic cell the mtDNA should be relatively conserved. However, the mutational rate of mtDNA is ten fold higher than that of nuclear DNA. So is the mtDNA sequence conserved among e.g. various mammalian species or the opposite?

Re: Protein isolation

... after doing some reading, I have come up with a different plan for quantifying HIF-1 alpha, which involves running an ELISA after performing a nuclear extraction. However, all the protocols and kits I have seen recommend 1-10 million cells for a good extraction. I am likely going to be using ...

Has anyone seen this before?

... about 1/3. It was a surface epithelial cell, which are not supposed to divide, and this didn't look like a mitotic pair anyway. It looked like a nuclear deformity, but it wasn't one I'd ever heard of before, and I'd never seen a cheek cell look like this. I'm curious if anyone else had seen something ...

Curious about these fungi.

... the inner walls of a plastic cup with some old beer. I know they are likely Ascomycete and appear to exhibit some yeast like traits as far as the nuclear fission and budding, although they have some incredibly thick walls and there appears to be a lot of hyphae around as well, which could be some ...
