The process of respiration used by some anaerobic organisms, in which nitrate rather than molecular oxygen is used to oxidise organic molecules to obtain energy.

What's the chemical reaction catalysed by nitrate reductase?

... aerobic organisms the chemical reaction would be (NADH + H + 1/2O2) -> (NAD+ + H2O) but how does this work with nitrite reductase in anaerobic respiration?

Yes, you're right. Just one spesification: anaeroboc respiration is not just glycolysis and fermentation. It can be production of variuos ... it is, for example, pyruvate, and in other case can be sulphate or nitrate ions).
