The aspiration of a sample of target tissue using a needle with suction.

This kind of biopsy is used as a diagnostic procedure to investigate a sample tissue from the body. It is usually performed on a lump or mass in breast in question. It is used to determine or evaluate the nature of the lump of tissue (i.e. if cancerous or not) through microscopy. It may also be done to determine the effect of treatment or to utilize the sample for a particular study or research.
