murexan

(Science: chemistry) A complex nitrogenous substance obtained from murexide, alloxantin, and other ureids, as a white, or yellowish, crystalline which turns red on exposure to the air.

Synonym: uramil, dialuramide, and formerly purpuric acid.

Origin: From Murexide.
