Midtarsal joint

Definition

The articulations between the calcaneus and cuboid bones laterally and between the talus and navicular bone medially, functioning as a unit allowing the front of foot to pivot relative to the back of the foot about the longitudinal axis of the foot, thus, allowing the foot to be slightly flexed or extended and the sole to be carried medially (inversion) or laterally (eversion).
