Methionine

methionine

(Science: biochemistry) Contains the SCH3 group that can act as a methyl donor (see s adenosyl methionine). Common in proteins but at low frequency. The met x linkage is subject to specific cleavage by cyanogen bromide.

See: formyl peptides. A crystalline amino acid containing sulfur; found in most proteins and essential for nutrition. One of 20 [[amino acids commonly found in [[ proteins.

Re: Tricky translation question, can someone help please?

... coding region where regulatory proteins bind the DNA and help a polymerase to hook onto the DNA and start transcription. You need to start with a methionine codon (AUG) and then count triplets (including the methionine) until you reach the stop (which you don't count as an amino acid).

Re: Homework help!

... A codon consists of three (3) nucleotides - 18/3 = 6. C) UAC UGA GCG AAU GCA AUU D) I am assuming we are using (AUG ACA CGC UUA CGU UAA): 1. AUG = Methionine (start codon) 2. ACA = Threonine 3. CGC = Arginine 4. UUA = Leucine 5. CGU = Arginine 6. UAA = Stop [Not entirely sure about the last, but ...

Wondering if someone can check this (DNA related)

... Given that 15% of the bases in a piece of DNA are thymine, calculate the percentage of the bases that are guanine: 35% Given: ATG: Tyrosine TAC: Methionine CCT: Glycine TCG: Serine CGT: Alanine 1. Write down the amino acid sequence coded for by a piece of messenger RNA with the following base ...
