Metabolic water has indeed a small part of the total water in many animals compared with free drinking water and the water contained in food. Although it may be small and insignificant in many animals, it is essential in the survival of some animals that reside in dry lands or in habitats where water sources are not available. For instance, the chief source of water for kangaroo rats (thriving in desert) is metabolic water. They never have to drink; the metabolic water produced within their cells is sufficient for their survival. See also: metabolism. ![]()

Respiratory vs metabolic acidosis/alkalosis... of aerobic respiration, your body produces CO2, which when mixed with water, creates H2CO3, which disassociates into HCO3- and H+, a reversible ... lower pH by keeping more CO2 in circulation, countering his high pH. Metabolic acidosis/alkalosis can be attributed to a myriad of causes, from ...

How does sucrose affect the germination rate of seeds?... acids to sucrose. The sucrose is then converted (through several other metabolic processes) into a 3-Carbon fragment which enters into the glycolytic ... of the enzymes present. Again, that is just an educated guess. As water enters the seed the enzymes are activated. This is the initial start ...

Re: Arsenic-eating microbe Here on the Earth water seems to be pretty damn crucial. At least I cannot think of any example a life form that would be able to carry on its metabolic functions in the complete absence of water. But then again, we don't really have liquid ...
