Matrix mitochondrialis

The substance occupying the space enclosed by the inner membrane of a mitochondrion; it contains enzymes, filaments of dna, ribosomes, granules, and inclusions of protein crystals, glycogen, and lipid.

Synonym: mitochondrial matrix.
