(Science: chemistry) a round-bottomed glass flask having a long neck; a bolthead.

Origin: f. Matras; perh. So called from its long narrow neck; cf. OF. Matras large arrow, L. Materis, mataris, matara, a Celtic javelin, pike; of Celtic origin.
