Dictionary » M » Mammogram MammogramMammogram (Science: investigation) a special imaging examination of the breast using x-rays. The purpose of this test is to detect breast cancer early when lumps are less than 2 cm or smaller in size (most lumps are not felt by the hand when they are 1 cm or less in diameter). Currently, it is believed that there routine mammography is life saving in women over the age of 50 yrs, useful between 40 and 50 yrs and not normally recommended as a routine test for women under 40 yrs. ![]()
