(Science: anatomy, muscle) origin, transverse processes of upper thoracic vertebrae; insertion, transverse processes of middle and upper cervical vertebrae; action, extends cervical vertebrae; nerve supply, dorsal primary rami of lower cervical and upper thoracic spinal nerves.

Synonym: musculus longissimus cervicis, cervical longissimus muscle, musculus transversalis cervicis, musculus transversalis colli.
