Dictionary » L » Linked genes Linked genesDefinition noun, singular: linked gene Genes that are inherited together with the other gene(s) as they are located on the same chromosome.
When a pair or set of genes are on the same chromosome, they are usually inherited together or as a single unit. For example, in fruit flies the genes for eye color and the genes for wing length are on the same chromosome, thus are inherited together. (Not to be confused with sex-linked gene, which refers to a gene located on one of the sex chromosomes). ![]()

Results from our forumRe: maping and linkage problemsGenetic linkage occurs when particular genetic loci or alleles for genes are inherited jointly. Genetic loci on the same chromosome are physically ... and tend to stay together during meiosis, and are thus genetically linked. This is called autosomal linkage. Alleles for genes on different chromosomes ...
