Antibiotic effectYes and no. Many antibiotics do as you say, that is they only suppress the bacterial growth but do not kill the microbes. These antibiotics are called bacteriostatic. Streptomycin, however, is bactericidal antibiotic as far as I know, and thus it kills bacteria that it affects ...

Antibiotic effect... if there were already bacteria in the dish, once you stop adding the antibiotic, they will start to grow? Are there any antibiotics that actually kill the bacteria so that you can stop adding them to the dish after a while? Thanks for your help.
