Jaguar

Jaguar

(Science: zoology) a large and powerful feline animal (felis onca), ranging from Texas and Mexico to Patagonia. It is usually brownish yellow, with large, dark, somewhat angular rings, each generally inclosing one or two dark spots. It is chiefly arboreal in its habits.

Synonym: the American tiger.

Origin: Braz. Yagoara: cf. & pg. Jaguar.

Which Great Cat is Heavier

I think is a tiger and I never hug any cats before even a kitten, but I am sure that the jaguar is the lightest.

... And I bet that if you compare Hemoglobin and S-hemoglobin to our cousins the apes, you'll see that the S-type would not match (except maybe with a Jaguar... sorry). Anyway "new phenotypes" can only arise through mutation (in the largest definition: point mutation, horizontal transfer, gene replication,...). ...

What is rarer

Do you have the stats for this jaguar count? It would be interesting to know the count of each of the species on the extinction list.

rarest of all

rarest of all is not a cheetah because for the sole fact that they are in zoos every where. The rarest cat is the jaguar. Not too many are known to exist. THis may have to do with its habitat and that not all of them are counted however as of today the Jaguar has the fewest.
