A hypothesis proposed by François Jacob and Jacques Monod describing the Operon Model of gene regulation in prokaryotes.

François Jacob and Jacques Monod hypothesized based on their biochemical studies in bacteria wherein certain genes act as a co-ordinately regulated unit, comprised of structural genes and regulatory genes controlled by operator/promoter genes.
