Intellect

(Science: psychology) The part or faculty of the human soul by which it knows, as distinguished from the power to feel and to will; sometimes, the capacity for higher forms of knowledge, as distinguished from the power to perceive objects in their relations; the power to judge and comprehend; the thinking faculty; the understanding.

Origin: L. Intellectus, fr. Intelligere, intellectum, to understand: cf. Intellect. See Intelligent.

Re: Bear vs Gorilla Stand-Off. Who would win?

Very simply, the gorilla could strangulate the bear or damage it's spinal column by hyper-rotating it's cranium. Intellect is always important during life or death struggles like the one being proposed. Think about it... :)

... of creation/initial life on earth. The crux of "intelligent design", rejected by biology, is exactly that your'e saying. Some person, intellect, or other powerful concept decided we needed pubic hair and pointed evolution in that direction.
