Increments

Increment

1. The act or process of increasing; growth in bulk, guantity, number, value, or amount; augmentation; enlargement. The seminary that furnisheth matter for the formation and increment of animal and vegetable bodies. (Woodward) A nation, to be great, ought to be compressed in its increment by nations more civilized than itself. (Coleridge)

2. Matter added; increase; produce; production; opposed to decrement. Large increment.

3. (Science: mathematics) The increase of a variable quantity or fraction from its present value to its next ascending value; the finite quantity, generally variable, by which a variable quantity is increased.

4. An amplification without strict climax, as in the following passage: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, . . . Think on these things. (Phil. Iv.

(Science: mathematics) 8) infinitesimal increment, a calculus founded on the properties of the successive values of variable quantities and their differences or increments. It differs from the method of fluxions in treating these differences as finite, instead of infinitely small, and is equivalent to the calculus of finite differences.

Origin: L. Incrementum: cf. F. Increment. See increase.

Calculating Partial Pressures of Water Vapor (Chem)

... me) and how does an interpolation calculation in this context look? The chart in my regular text book only has pressures at temperatures that are increments of 1. It includes no decimals. I doubt the lab book has any decimals. I think there's some simple way to calculate but I'm not sure. Does ...

effect of temperature on the survival of yeast cells

... makes sense thanks. Don't think I've used a temperature grip, I've put boiling tubes in water baths from 50 degrees up to 70 degrees at 5 degree increments.

effect of temperature on the survival of yeast cells

... do we have to be with the temperature? I've done every 5 degrees and said in my limitatioss that id I had more time I would have done 1 degree increments, is that alright do you think?

The effect of temperature on the survival of yeast cells

... and count the cells. Seeing as we never actually have to carry out this experiment, would there be any harm in using 1 degree Celcius increments and carrying out the experiment 5 times for each temperature to get an accurate average (hypothetically, that is)?
