A number of possibilities exist. One is that the "original dogs" were so genetically simple that they could inbreed without problems...similar to how most plants can do so.

Are you sure it is "interbreed" and not "inbreed"? Inbreed makes any sense here ;) based on the Glossary of Term in Cellular Biology book, primitive cells refer to prokaryotic cells.

Dogs, "Bad breed"

... who just lost her second rotti to cancer. She was such a gentle dog! That is why responsable breeders select dogs from other areas and do not inbreed that way.
