Re: Why is ATP rather than GTP, CTP or TTP the energy currency?

... Firstly, GTP hydrolysis is SLOW .* The extra amount of time prior to GTP hydrolysis (Compared to ATP) allows `the final fidelity check` to take place. Is GTP hydrolysis inherently slower than ATP hydrolysis? Surely it would just depend on the active site of the enzyme catalysing hydrolysis, ...

holographic origin of life

... however ( random chemical reactions and mainstream view) is that there is a difference in the pace in which life has created in the first place. Suppose we have the case that there were chemicals in proto-earth reacting with each other arbitrarily (in random) and this system was becoming ...

Re: holographic origin of life

... chemicals would diffuse around not allowing complex reactions to be sustained. Complex arbitrary reactions can be sustained only in an isolated place (remember the paradigm with the flask), but not for long because of the lack of chemical resources. So my described model can only develop everywhere ...

Re: Beginner Microbiologist, looking for a place to start.

If you are seriously interested in microbiology, you need to delve early into chemistry: general chem, organic chem, biochem. Finding some used college texts is a good way in, but it can be expensive. You can get a lot from Google and Wikipedia. I'm going to assume you are smart and highly motivated...

Beginner Microbiologist, looking for a place to start.

Hello, I am 15 and have been very interested in biology since I was very little. I saved up a lot of money and recently purchased a lab microscope, and a ton of lab supplies. I have done all the basics- looked at pond water, plants, I have grown bacteria in Agar plates. I am at a point where I want ...
