1. (Science: prefix) Signifying over, above, high, beyond, excessive, above normal; as, hyperphysical, hyperthyrion; also abnormally great, excessive; as, hyperaemia, hyperbola, hypercritical, hypersecretion.

2. (Science: chemistry) a prefix equivalent to super- or per-; as hyperoxide, or peroxide.

Compare: super.

Origin: gr. Over, above; akin to L. Super, E. Over.

... there any reason why Alice should not use a diuretic substance to help her urinate? Almost all causes of death resulting from MDMA are related to (hyper|hypo)hydration; regular urination would surely encourage usual levels of drinking/hydration. Thanks! ~ drunkard

hypo and hyper osmotically??

Look up water activity. In the broader context - there are organisms adapted or evolved to proliferate in high and low water activity (hyper and hypotonic conditions). Many organisms respond to hypertonic environments by accumulating solutes.

When a cell is in a hypotonic solution, that means that there are more solutes inside the cell (the salinity of the cell is higher than that of the outside).
