(Science: zoology) The piping frog (hyla Pickeringii), a small American tree frog, which in early spring, while breeding in swamps and ditches, sings with high, shrill, but musical, notes.

Origin: NL, fr. Gr. Woody, wooded, muddy; a wood _ form.
