a fungus found worldwide. In the USA, it is so common in the midwest that in parts of kentucky and tennessee nearly 90% of adults show evidence of exposure (with a positive histoplasma skin test).

"Molds" as mycelial fungi under lab culture? Suppose Coccidioides immitis, Histoplasma capsulatum, Blastomyces dermatitidis - all pretty close.

... diagnostic laboratory, the organism must be distinguished from species of candida and cryptococcus, and to a lesser extent from the yeast forms of Histoplasma and Blastomyces
