Heartwater

An acute febrile disease of cattle, sheep, and goats in sub-Saharan Africa and certain islands in the indian and atlantic oceans and in the Caribbean, caused by the rickettsial organism cowdria ruminantium and transmitted by ticks of the genus Amblyomma; some species of african antelope and European and American deer also are susceptible.

Synonym: cowdriosis, veldt disease.
