The number of heartbeats per unit of time


Supplement

Heart rate is usually expressed as number of beats per minute. It can be monitored by taking the pulse. The normal heart rate is anywhere in the range of 60 to 85 beats per minute; however, this may change with age, sex, and size.

Heart rate is measured in order to monitor the cardiac activity and the overall medical condition of the individual.
