Gum arabic

(Science: chemical) Powdered exudate from various acacia species, especially a. Senegal (leguminosae). It forms mucilage or syrup in water. Gum arabic is used as a suspending agent, excipient, and emulsifier in foods and pharmaceuticals.

Pharmacological action: excipient.
