Growth arrest lines

Lines near the end of a long bone of a young individual as detected through X-rays

The lines indicate episodes in the life of a young individual wherein bone growth decelerated or ceased due to physiological stress, such as malnutrition during childhood. The lines though may disappear when bone growth resumes and the individual grows to adulthood.
