Grallae

(Science: ornithology) An order of birds which formerly included all the waders. By later writers it is usually restricted to the sandpipers, plovers, and allied forms.

Synonym: grallatores.

Origin: NL, fr. L. Grallae stilts, for gradulae, fr. Gradus. See grade.
