Glauconite

Glauconite

(Science: chemical) The green mineral characteristic of the greensand of the chalk and other formations. It is a hydrous silicate of iron and potash. See greensand.

Origin: cf. F. Glauconite, glauconie, fr. L. Glaucus. See glaucous.
