Genetic map

Definition

noun

(1) A list of ordered genetic loci for a particular genome.

(2) A map of the relative positions of genetic markers along a chromosome of a particular species as determined by the recombination frequency during crossover of homologous chromosomes.

Supplement

Genetic linkage map shows the relative positions of genetic markers on a chromosome. The positions of genetic markers are determined based on how often the loci are inherited together rather than on the specific physical distance between them. It means that the more often the two genetic markers are inherited together the farther apart they are. In contrast, the lower frequency of being inherited together the closer the smaller the physical distance is between them.

Genetic map units are measured in terms of centimorgans (cM).

Synonym: linkage map.
Compare: gene map.
See also: genetic locus, genetic marker.

I looked into this Van't Hof, and all he did was map the genome of the moth, find the gene that is responsible for coloring, and ... the Chromosome 17 of the Wild type and the carbonaria variants. Previous genetic studies appear to have demonstrated that the melanic character is behaving ...

Re: Few Genetic Questions!

for your first question it means that because the genes are only spaced by 22 map units then the genes are said to be linked and therefore there will be higher number of offspring that will show the parental phenotype and not the recombinat one!! therefore instead ...
