Diversifying selection

... reducing variation. So I am unsure what the overal effect of diversifying selection is-increase in variation or decrease? For example, in the galapagos finches, the diversifying selection within a single population-would it lead to an increase or decrease in variation?

... way the same ancestor radiates into different forms under the different environmental conditions on different islands. This was very true for the Galapagos and Darwin's finches.
