Fucoxanthin

(Science: chemical) carotenoid pigment of certain brown algae (Phaeophyta) and bacteria: absorbs at 500-580 nm. a carotenoid pigment present in chlorophyll c, which is capable of absorbing more light in depths of water than chlorophyll a would, and therefore prevails in aquatic autotrophs.
