1. (Science: anatomy) Generally a small sac or vesicle.

2. (Science: botany) a kind of fruit formed from a single carpel, that splits to release its seeds.

3. (Science: dermatology) a hair follicle, an invagination of the epidermis into the dermis surrounding the hair root.

4. (Science: gynaecology, physiology) An ovarian follicle, an oocyte surrounded by one or more layers of granulosa cells. As the ovarian follicle develops a cavity forms and it is then termed a graafian follicle. Any small spherical group of cells containing a cavity.A small sac-like cavity.

A question about pubic hairs.

I guess the same way every other hair does it. After a while (depends on sex, individual and location) the follicle shrinks and the blood supply is stopped. This leads to loosing the hair. But it has nothing to do with cutting or shaving hairs, only with the time that has passed ...

Well, there is limited number of follicle, but there are still many more than are used during the lifetime.
