Flake

1. A paling; a hurdle.

2. A platform of hurdles, or small sticks made fast or interwoven, supported by stanchions, for drying codfish and other things. You shall also, after they be ripe, neither suffer them to have straw nor fern under them, but lay them either upon some smooth table, boards, or flakes of wands, and they will last the longer. cricket breeding....

... substrate that works for egg-laying, under lights timed to be on 12 hours a day (they have a large piece of driftwood to hide under). I feed them flake fish food, which they do well on. My colonie has been going strong for about a year now, but crashed for no apparent reason about a year ago.
