Dictionary » F » Fibrous joint Fibrous jointDefinition noun, plural: fibrous joints (anatomy) A form of articulation in which the bones are connected by a fibrous tissue, mainly collagen. There is no joint cavity, and movement is minimal or no movement is possible.
The dense connective tissue that connects the fibrous joints consists mainly of collagen. The fibrous joints are classified into three types: (1) sutures, (2) syndesmosis and (3) gomphosis.
